Japanese (with English and Korean Minor) Major

1. Brief Introduction

Japanese (with English and Korean Minor) Major (Normal Category, undergraduate, four years, admitting students from both arts and science)

This major is under Japanese Department.

Cultivation Objectives: cultivating Japanese major talents who have solid and broad knowledge on Japanese language and science and culture and are capable of working on translation, research, teaching, secretary, management and public relations in departments relating to foreign affairs, trade and business, culture, press and publication, research, foreign enterprises and tourism etc. To enhance the competitiveness of students and expand the channels of employment, students can choose English or Korean as a minor.

Major Curriculum: basic Japanese, intermediate Japanese, advanced Japanese, elementary Japanese listening, intermediate Japanese listening, advanced Japanese viewing and listening, Japanese speaking, Japanese extensive reading, Japanese translation theory an practice, Japanese film and television appreciation, modern Japanese grammar, Japanese writing, Japanese modern and contemporary literary history, selected reading of Japanese Literary works, overview of Japanese society, Japanese methodology and so on, and some English or Korean Minor courses like comprehensive English (Korean), English (Korean) reading, English (Korean) listening and English (Korean) grammar.

Employment Orientations: students can become Japanese teachers in educational institutions like universities, middle and primary schools as well as vocational schools.

Degree Awarded: Bachelor's Degree of Arts.

1. Brief Introduction

Japanese (Practical Japanese) Major (Non-normal category, undergraduate, four years, admitting students from both arts and science)

This major is under Japanese Department.

Cultivation Objectives: cultivating Japanese major talents with ability and morality for departments relating to foreign affairs, international trade, foreign enterprises, press and publication, tourism and so on. Equipping students with systematic knowledge of Japanese language and skills like publication, marketing, computer application, etc; Enhancing students' ability of listening, speaking, writing and translation, and equipping students with strong knowledge and practical skills on international trade and computer to make them capable of translation and interpretation in departments relating to international trade, foreign enterprises and tourism.

Major Curriculum: Practical Japanese, advanced Japanese, Japanese extensive reading, Japanese speaking, elementary Japanese listening, intermediate Japanese listening, advanced Japanese viewing and listening, marketing Japanese, selected reading of Japanese Literary works, overview of Japanese society, Japanese simultaneous interpretation, Japanese history, Japanese geography, Japanese film and television appreciation, technology Japanese, trade Japanese, Japanese for tour guide, second foreign language (English), Japanese computer application, etc.

Employment Orientation: students from this major can perform Japanese-related work in foreign enterprises, foreign affairs institutes, corporations from home and abroad, multinational companies. 90% of graduates from this major are working in economically-developed zones in Beijing, Shanghai, Dalian, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, etc.

(II) Major for Master's Degree and Directions

Japanese Language and Literature

1. Brief Introduction

Cultivation Directions: This major admits and cultivate postgraduate students on three directions, namely Japanese Literature, Japanese Culture and Japanese Linguistics.

Cultivation Objectives: cultivating advanced talents of foreign languages who can face the 21 century and adapt to the construction of socialist modernization and the reform of education in our country and equipping them with adaptability, creativity and pioneering in all causes. Students should have solid and generous theory of Japanese Language and literature, basic knowledge and skills, strong professional knowledge on language and literature; With strong independent research and study ability as well as ability of updating knowledge and creation, students should acquire professional theories of Japanese language or literature and grasp the development and lastest achievements in all fields. Students are required to learn a second foreign language other than Japanese, achieveing relatively strong ability of communication and reading, and to acquire basic knowledge and application skills of computer in order to lay a solid foundation for the future scientific research.

Studying Period: 3 years

Credits Required: Total credit required is 32 to 34, including 216 credit hours (3 credits) for foreign language; 106 credit hours for political theories for students of arts, 90 credit hours for students of science (both 2 credits); 72 credit hours for PE (1 credit); 300 to 400 credit hours for the total of basic specialized courses, specialized courses and elective courses (the total credit for basic specialized courses and specialized courses should be 22; credit for elective courses should be 4 to 6)

3.Wang Zongjie, female, was born in Tanggu, Tianjin in January 1964. She graduated in Japanese from the English Department of Harbin Normal University in 1986. Graduating in Japanese Literature from Northeast Normal University in 1991, she was sent to study in the Hokkaido University of Education at public expense in 1994 and received the master's degree of Linguistics. In 2008, she graduated from Foreign Languages College of Northeast Normal University with a doctor's degree of foreign literature. Wang Zongjie is currently the dean of Oriental Languages College of Harbin Normal University and master's instructor in Japanese Literature and Culture. She also performs as the key academic leader of Heilongjiang Education Department and Personnel Department, life member of National Institute of Japanese Literature, permanent member of National Japanese Education and Research Association, guest professor for Japanese Star University as well as Executive director of Heilongjiang Translators Association.

3. Instructors

Wang Zongjie (Japanese Literature)

Li Shuzhi (Japanese Linguistics)

Li Shuzhi, 61 years old, graduated from the Japanese Department of Heilongjiang University in 1976. Li Shuzhi is currently a professor and instructor for postgraduate students in the Oriental Languages College of Harbin Normal University. Research Direction: Japanese Linguistics. In recent years, Professor Li has deeply researched on the grammar system, thoughts and works of Teramura Hideo, the great master of modern Japanese grammar. She is now researching on the book 日本語のシンタクタスと意味, starting from the structure of Japanese sentences to analyse the deep semantic of various sentences. Professor Li also researches on the Similarity between migration from Heilingjiang dialect to mandarin and migration from Hokkaido dialect to mandarin.

Zhao Wei, female, Han and PhD student, graduated in Japanese Department from Harbin University of Science and Technology in 1998 and studies in institute of Asian Civilizations under History and Culture College of Harbin Normal University. She is currently the head of Japanese Department, assistant professor and master's instructor. She was awarded the "Ning Qikun" Teaching Prize for middle-aged and young teachers of Harbin Normal universtiy in 2010 and gained first- level teaching quality prize for 2 times. Presiding over one education reform project of Harbin Normal University, she also edited 2 teaching materials and published 5 teaching and research papers, with 4 of them on key journals.

Zhao Wei (Japanese Culture)

Zheng Yang (Japanese Culture)

Zheng Yang, born in Harbin in 1972, received the Doctor's degree of sociology of education in Osaka City University in 2005. Majoring in sociology of education and sociology of family, Zheng Yang interprets problems in families from China and Japan based the differences of children's socialization, forms of childcare, female gender norms between the two countries and tries to provide good suggestions that can be learnt from each other.
