Chinese Linguistics and Literature

Chinese Linguistics and Literature (Undergraduate, Four Years, Literature and History Category)

Cultivation Objectives: Cultivating general language and cultural talents with solid ability of Chinese listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation. Equipped with basic knowledge and professional theory of Chinese, graduates should have basic knowledge on Chinese national conditions and culture and be capable of performing China-related work.

Main Curriculum: Mainly Chinese language courses, including: elementary, intermediate and advanced comprehensive Chinese, separate skill training courses on Chinese listening, speaking, reading and writing, Newspapers Reading, News Listening, Chinese Idioms, Test Counselling of HSK. Moreover, there are some cultural courses: Introduction to Chinese Society, Chinese National Conditions, Chinese Literature, Art, Geography, Martial Art, Calligraphy and folk, etc.

Notice: 1. Undergraduates have elective courses from Class E. There are three to four elective courses every semester and each student should select at least two courses (4 credits).

2. Undergraduates can apply for the Thesis Defence as long as they achieve 146 credits on compulsory courses, 10 credits on elective courses, 4 credits on language practice and New HSK 5. Passing the Thesis Defence (8 credits), they can receive Bachelor's Degree of Arts.

3. The weekly academic hours are the credits.

(II) Postgraduate Major and Specialities

Chinese Linguistics and Literature

1. Brief Introduction to the Major

Cultivation Specialities: the Chinese Linguistics and Literature Major admits and cultivates postgraduates in three specialities, namely Modern Chinese, Ancient Chinese and Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language.

          Cultivation Objectives: The major aims to cultivate senior Chinese researchers and teachers of Modern Chinese, Ancient Chinese and Chinese Teaching as a foreign language for foreign higher institutions.

Specific objectives to be achieved:

 (1) loving peace and Chinese culture, having dedication, ideals and devoting to Chinese teaching.

 (2) equipped with systematic and solid knowledge and language theory on linguistics and Chinese, having serious, scientific and realistic academic attitude. Graduates should have strong capability of Chinese research and Chinese teaching.

 (3) mastering Chinese and being capable of reading Chinese materials in this major. Being capable of looking up Chinese materials on computer in the Chinese environment, processing Chinese corpus and writing Chinese academic thesis and the dissertation. Graduates should grasp knowledge of relevant neighbouring disciplines and have strong adaptability and pioneering spirit.

 (4) having good health, excellent mental quality and optimistic spirit.

Study Period: 3- 4 years.

Credits Requirement: Pass all examinations ( 60 points for non-degree courses, 75 points for degree courses) and receive more than 30 credits.

1. Brief Introduction to the Major

Master of Chinese International Education

1. Brief Introduction to the Major

Cultivation Objectives: Cultivating high-level, application-oriented composite talents with professional Chinese and strong cross-cultural communication ability. Graduates should be capable of Chinese International Promotion and Teaching tasks.

Specific objectives to be achieved:

 (1) having excellent professional quality and ethics;

 (2) loving Chinese International Education, having dedication, creativity and pioneering ability.

 (3) having systematic and solid professional knowledge, good quality of Chinese culture and strong cross-cultural communication ability.

 (4) acquiring skilled Chinese as second language teaching skills.

 (5) being capable of teaching Chinese and communication in a foreign language

 (6) being capable of teaching Chinese with modern educational skills and technology.
