Associate Professor Guo Xumao was born in February, 1958 and graduated from Department of Physical Education of Harbin Normal University in 1982 with a Bachelor¡¯s degree in Education. His Major Research Interests are Martial arts teaching and training, Traditional and Ethnic Sports Culture.

Currently Guo Xumao is responsible for a series of courses, namely, Teaching and Training Methodology of Martial Arts, Theory and Practice of Martial Arts, General Introduction of Traditional and Ethnic Sports, and Practice of Martial Skills, and is also the Graduate Student Instructor for the Traditional and Ethnic Sports Major. In recent years he published a total of 15 papers and 4 academic works, undertook 6 research projects, and is the winner of one award above provincial level.

1. Teaching & Experiment Center

Established in March, 2002, the Teaching & Experiment Center of Physical Science College has 6 teachers and seven laboratories, namely Sports Physiology and Biochemistry Laboratory (Sports Building Room 111), Sports Health Care Laboratory (Sports Building Room 113), Physical Fitness Laboratory 1 (Sports Building 112 Room), Physical Fitness Laboratory 2 (Room 122, Sports House) , Sports Psychology Laboratory (Sports Building Room 120), Sports Biomechanics Laboratory (Sports Building Room 114) and Sports Anatomy Laboratory (Sports Building, Room 403). Covering a totally floor space of 514 square meters, these laboratories altogether owns e 1.29 million RMB worth equipments. The Center can provide laboratories to all the undergraduate experimental courses within this college, and can provide measurement of human body functions and biochemical index as well as diagnosis and treatment of sports injuries.

Ever since its founding the center has commit itself to reforming the experiment education, so as to give full play to the significance of experimental teaching in enhancing students skills, improving their overall quality and the quality of experiment teaching, hardware and software facilities, management mode and the rank of teachers. Under the correct leadership of university and college leaders at all levels, after years of effort, the center has accumulated many advanced management experience, and has made considerable progress in the hardware environment, experimental teaching philosophy, curriculum, faculty, management system, and laboratory environment. In the future, the center will open up further to the society and improve its service quality to better serve our students and teachers, and working hard to build the center into a comprehensive teaching, researching and service center.

(1) Sports Anatomy Laboratory

In the Sports Anatomy Laboratory there are anatomical specimens (model) of human organ systems and many multimedia projectors, which can provides experiment (practice) and teaching ground mainly for the undergraduate¡¯s Sports Anatomy Course. Besides, it is also the place where other human science courses carried out. Based mainly on observations, most of the Sports Anatomy experiments can be tested in quizzes. During the process of learning theoretical knowledge, students can make close observation of human specimens (models), which is beneficial for them to form a more intuitive understanding of the body structure and consequently attain a good teaching result. At present the major experiment programs of the laboratory include the observation of basic human cells and tissue microstructure, observation of human bones, joints and skeletal muscle, observation of human organs, human circulatory system and blood circulation systems, and basic structure and composition of the human nervous system, of nerve pathways and functions, and of sense organs.

Major Equipments: human skeleton specimens, muscle anatomy model, Hierarchical model of human anatomy, human organ system models for medical education, cell model and electrical model of blood circulation, multimedia devices.

(2) Sports Physiology and Biochemistry Laboratory

The Sports Physiology and Biochemistry Laboratory provide experiment (practice) and teaching ground mainly for the undergraduate Sports Physiology courses. At present the major experiment programs of the laboratory are Hemoglobin and blood type identification, measurement of blood glucose level before and after exercise, measurement of reaction time, and measurement of field of vision, etc. the laboratory can also do a series of blood and urine tests, such as semi-quantitative detection of blood lactate, various serum antibodies, virus, hormone levels, and detention of Urine sugar, urine protein, bilirubin, urobilinogen, ketones, nitrite and other indicators. The laboratory can provide a scientific basis for a number of design experiments such as functional assessment of athletes, fatigue testing, as well as exercise-induced disease diagnosis. It can not only meet the experiment needs of the undergraduate teaching, but also provide teachers and graduate students of our college with solid facilities for them to carry out scientific research.

Major Equipments: Shanghai Shangfen hemoglobin analyzer type 5020, RT-2100C multifunction automated microplate reader, YSI1500 lactate analyzer, , LT-1710 portable lactate analyzer(Kyoto, Japan), MA-4210 urine analyzer, various types of test containers and all kinds of medicine.

(3) Sports Health Care Laboratory

The Sports Health Care Laboratory provides experiment (practice) and teaching ground mainly for the undergraduate courses such as Sports Medicine (Sports Health Care Education) and Sports Massage, etc. besides, it is also the place where some of the Sports Anatomy and Sports Physiology experiments carried out. The laboratory offers a wide variety of experiment programs, including Body Shape Measurement, Dressing Hemostasis, fixing and transport, CPR, Sports injury diagnosis, Heart rate and blood pressure measurement before and after exercise, respiratory function measurement, The Laboratory is one of the professional practice base for Physical Science College, and also provides the community with diagnosis of acute and chronic sports injuries, physical therapy, and rehabilitation services.

(4) Sports Biomechanics Laboratory

The Sports Biomechanics Laboratory provides experiment (practice) and teaching ground for the Physical Education, Sports Training, and Traditional and Ethnic Sports undergraduate courses. Through learning these experiment courses, students will be able to acquire certain knowledge of biomechanics experiments and experimental methods, to make independent collection of human body kinematics, inertia as well as dynamic parameters, and to use knowledge of biomechanics in the research and analysis of mechanical movement of the body so as to increase the level of training for undergraduate students and lay a foundation for analysis and diagnosis of students specific technical movement. While making great efforts to build the experimental basis for undergraduate students, the laboratory also continued to improve the teaching quality of the experiment courses and enhance the practical ability of students. It has, at the same time of increasing the number of large, advanced testing equipments, gradually carried out experiment course for its post-graduate students.

In the laboratory currently owns a series of equipment, such as Ariel Biomechanics of Sports Analytical System, computer data processing system, sitting height measurement apparatus, and electrical body weight scale, etc. Its experiment programs includes gravity trajectory of body movement, relationship between step length and stride frequency at different running speed, knee joint angle when jogging ---time curve, vertical jump experiment, etc.

(5) Sports Psychology Laboratory

Sports Psychology Laboratory is currently under construction. The Laboratory now has a variety of psychometric questionnaires include attention evaluation, evaluation of creative thinking, evaluation of Cartel's 16 personality factors, assessment of college students¡¯ personality health, temperament, subjective anxiety, and social adaptability, SCL90 subjective evaluation of mental health and other psychological and other assessment questionnaires. Besides, the lab also owns a range of psychological measuring instruments such as Canada PROCOMP + biofeedback device, visual field device, nine-hole apparatus, reaction measurement apparatus, etc

Currently, the laboratory can carry out experiment on sense of power, operational thinking, and emotional stability during movement and a variety of other psychological tests. Through learning and operation of these experiments, students will be able to master the basic principles of psychological experiments and form a preliminary understanding of the methods and content of psychological experiments in sports and then to understand the psychological change during movement, psychological factors¡¯ impact on the performance skills, as well as athlete¡¯s specific personality traits, so as to better facilitate the physical education, training and research.

According to the college¡¯s requirement on teaching and for future development, sports psychology laboratory in the future will gradually establish and improve the athletes training and competition psychological evaluation and counseling system to provide students and professional athletes with a more professional and systematic psychological diagnosis and counseling service.

(6) Physical Fitness Laboratory 1

Physical Fitness Laboratory 1 engages mainly in the Measurement and evaluation of fitness indicators such as muscle strength, speed endurance, and explosive forces, etc. the test items include peak anaerobic power of the lower limbs, decreasing rate of anaerobic power, the average anaerobic power and muscular strength and endurance of major human muscle groups. At present the major undergraduate experiment programs of the laboratory include anatomical analysis of sports moves, lower limb anaerobic power measurement and so on. Peak anaerobic power, anaerobic power lapse rate and average anaerobic power and other indicators may reflect the athletes¡¯ muscle¡¯s efficiency in a short period on a limited load, and the supply capability of glycolysis energy system. Therefore, they are the frequently-used functional index of the athletes in speed, strength, and anaerobic endurance programs. The major equipments in this laboratory are MONARK894E anaerobic power bicycle, MONARK828E-bicycle power meter, and Electronic dynamometer and strength training equipments, etc.

(7) Physical Fitness Laboratory (2)

Physical Fitness Laboratory 1 engages mainly in the measurement and evaluation of fitness indicators of cardiopulmonary function and body composition. The test items include VO2max, VT, VO2/HR, AT, RER,OD, BMI, OBD,LBM,TBW,L, BF, and £¥BF, and the laboratory can also make Holter ECG, and real-time monitoring of movement rate, trajectory, and heart rate during movement. Apart from the undergraduate experiment program such as measurement of VO2max and Anaerobic threshold level, B\body composition analysis, variation of heart rate during movement, the laboratory also can carry out a series of research projects such as analysis of cardiopulmonary function, metabolic behavior analysis, analysis of fat consumption, and exercise prescription, etc.
